About RVDC

Part of the River Valley Justice Center, this 102 bed Juvenile Detention
Center is located in Joliet, Illinois. Developed as a joint venture between Will and
Kankakee Counties, RVDC is a temporary placement center for juveniles, between the ages of
ten and sixteen, awaiting court decisions on their cases. Only minors who have
allegedly committed a delinquent offense may be detained. To be detained, a juvenile
must be:
A danger to the community or themselves
Likely to flee the jurisdiction of the Court
Have been taken into custody under a warrant
While in secure detention, juveniles participate in the Juvenile Education program as well as a wide
variety of Programming conducted by both the Juvenile
Detention Staff and Community Social Service Groups.
During the year 2005 the average daily population was 65
juveniles. The Detention Center admitted a total of 873 juveniles, of which 705 were
from Will County, 147 were from Kankakee County and 21 were from other Illinois Counties.
Of all 873 intakes 702 were males and 171 were females. The
average age of all intakes was sixteen.
